Our principles

Ten things we hold to.

On every project, in plain words.

01

People before technology

Tools serve people and places.

02

Knowledge before assumptions

Listen to those who know the landscape.

03

Measure with, not just for

Communities take part in the measuring.

04

Strengthen stewardship

Maps to protect, not to extract.

05

Context matters

Data without local context misleads.

06

Transparency

Every number shows where it came from.

07

Open where possible

Share what can safely be shared.

08

Collaboration

No one has the whole picture.

09

Humility

Every measurement has limits.

10

Action

Information exists to enable decisions.

Why it matters

People experiencing environmental change do not always have equal access to information about it.

So we work to make environmental information understandable, locally relevant, accessible and actionable: through free tools, open data, community work and training.
